Joe Skinner
Bio
Joe has been coaching volleyball for over 17 years at the International, NCAA Division 1, NCAA Division 2, USAV Club and OKRVA Region levels. He enjoys teaching and sharing knowledge. Joe has presented at the 2022 and 2023 AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Conventions.
His full time job is with USA Volleyball where he is the lead Assistant Coach for USA Men’s Sitting National Team. During his time at USAV, the team has improved from 10th in the World to 6th. At the 2018 and 2022 World Championships, the team finished 8th (2018) and 6th (2022 and Best Finish Ever). In 2024, the MSNT finished 2nd at the Final Qualifier and finished 2nd at the Dutch Tournament. Joe also manages and trains the Men’s Resident Program at UCO for the athletes that live in the OKC area.
Besides coaching for USAV, Joe also coaches at UCO and has helped since 2017. During that time, the team has been perennially ranked in the AVCA top 25 poll.
He has coached at Peak since 2016. In the 2023-2024 season, his team (16 National) won OKRVA Regionals and finished 2nd in the country at AAU Nationals!
In 2018, 2022, and 2024, Joe has been a coach for the OKRVA All Stars (previously high performance).
Prior to moving to Oklahoma in 2016, Joe was an Assistant Coach at Fresno State and had multiple roles at the University of Oregon. In 2012, Joe was on staff at Oregon when they finished 2nd in the country losing to Texas.
Joe believes in developing the holistic student athlete while maintaining a high level of play on the court. The athletes will be competitors on the court while be great people and role models off the court. Due to his diverse background, he understands the importance of taking care of your mental health.
